What is an academic assessment?

Academic Assessment test measures the individual child’s current academic performance level referenced against Australian norms.

Provides information and recommendations within an easy to read Academic Report that outlines the student’s academic strengths and specific areas for future growth.

The information and recommendation scan assist parents, students and educators when setting learning goals based on their unique learning needs.

Who adminsters the TutorTime academic assessment?

Tests are administered by a fully-qualified Teacher who holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Special Education.

What can an academic assessment include?

Reading Assessment

Reading Accuracy: Indicates the student’s ability to decode words accurately in a list and as part of a short story.

Reading fluency: This measures the rate that student’s read.

Reading comprehension: Testing literal and inferential comprehension skills for students 5 years to Adult.Test materials include both fiction and non-fiction pages. The tests are matched to the student’s age and school grade.

Decoding Skills: Testing the student’s ability to read regular, irregular and non-words in a list.

Phonological awareness, blending and segmentation: Indicates the student’s letter sound knowledge, ability to isolate and delete sounds. Phonological awareness is a building block for pre-reading and early reading skills.

Spelling: Tests the student’s ability to write single words.The student will hear the words and be provided with a sentence example where the word is used in context.

Sentence composition: This test measures the student’s ability to combine ideas into a sentence and to build on a given sentence whilst retaining the meaning.

Essay Writing: This measures the student’s ability to compose an essay on a familiar topic within a 10 minute time limit.The essay writing indicates the student’s ability to structure sentences and evaluates word choice and grammar.

Essay Writing: This measures the student’s ability to compose an essay on a familiar topic within a 10 minute time limit.The essay writing indicates the student’s ability to structure sentences and evaluates word choice and grammar.

Mathematics Assessment

Numeracy: This is an untimed test. Student’s calculate answers to basic mathematical operations, geometry, algebra and calculus.

Maths Fluency: Student’s complete basic addition, multiplication and division problems within a 60 second time limit for each subtest.
